New facility at TU Delft to study the effect of the Earth’s rotation on waves The new tank and linear piston wavemaker was built by Edinburgh Designs. “The DTP-Lab combines a rotating table, with a water-filled pool in which gravity waves can be generated, a so-called wave flume. The motion of the water underneath the waves can be studied using a 3D Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) system. The table can rotate up to 7.5 rotations per minute, allowing the effect of the Earth’s rotation, normally only apparent at large geophysical scales (10-1000 km) to be studied under laboratory conditions.”
